Menyewa di kota London, Private Rental : Part 1


Ada banyak procedure to go through bila menyewa di luar negara. Bagi anyone yang gi belajar kat oversea secara solo ni, senang sikit. Sebab boleh share sewa atau sewa je university accomodation, semua benda university dah uruskan. Tinggal nak bayar je. Tapi kali ni, it strikes my mind untuk share experience prosedur menyewa rumah di London. Based on our experience, we came in here bertiga. Therefore university accomodations are not really suitable for us, plus I do not prefer studio apartment, sebab susah nak bergerak and bahaya bagi anak yang akan belajar crawling nanti. Yela, merangkak sikit, terhantuk sana, then terhantuk sini. Maklumlah sempit.. Satu lagi, we need a little bit more space just in case our family come in here to visit us. So, I tried to rent a private rental flat from a local  English man here. We were lucky as we managed to get a Malaysian family yang duduk kat sini and planning to go back to Malaysia for good. So, I asked this potential landlord's phone number and rang him when I reached London. 

1. Estate agents or direct personal owner

Bare in mind, ada banyak estate agents yang boleh kita contact untuk sewa rumah, atau kita boleh sewa direct dari owner rumah. Cuma bezanya, estate agents biasanya akan minta deposit from 2  up to 6 months. Tapi kalau sewa direct dari owner, boleh minta kurang. Like in our case, we managed to negotiate for 1 month rental for deposit. 

2. Arrange for an interview

Another tip yang kita kena ingat, no matter through agent, or direct dengan owner rumah tu, benda WAJIB yang kita kena arrange is the interview. Which means, jangan deal through email or call without seeing the person in-charge. So, be prepared to come 1 to 2 weeks earlier before classes start or start kerja kat sini. Kalau ada kenal sapa2 kat places yang kita nak gi tu, boleh tumpang. Or kena spend lebih sikit utk menyewa dulu. Like in our story, kami duduk apartment hotel seminggu, sementara uruskan hal sewa and agreement. 

3. Kriteria rumah

Kalau boleh, pilih la rumah yang ada central gas heating and double-glazed window (penting sangat time winter, especially kalau ada anak kecil). Jangan lupa, tengok if the house tu ada secured door. Bukan tingkap and pintu buruk yang boleh diumpil at anytime. 

4. Facilities nearby our chosen house

We decided to rent in Finchley, somewhere in North London. So, here are the additional information yang menjadi kriteria pemilihan rumah kami:
  • Fully furnished
  • Dekat dengan government clinic (NHS Lichfield Grove Surgery- sebab my lil hero ni needs a few immunisation jabs). Jadi senang nak follow up nanti
  • Halal butcher - ada a few di Ballards lane
  • London underground tube - Finchley Central
  • Mosque - Finchley Central Mosque
  • Tesco Ballards Lane
  • Banks - ada a few (Natwest, HSBC, Lloyds)
  • Post office
  • Park - senang untuk aktiviti riadah dengan family
Therefore, lepas dah kira semua perkara, interview dan discuss dengan tuan rumah, we decided to rent the house for GBP900/month for a period of 6 months basis. Kalau puas hati, sambung lagi another 6 months. Macam tulah perjanjiannya.
